Caring for people who have dementia

Friday 7 December is Support #Elfday

Agincare is proud to be unleashing our inner elf by dressing up – as much as we possibly can across all of our company. From home care offices, to care homes and staff in our individual head office teams, we’re all taking part and prizes for the best dressed team are on offer!

What is Elf Day?

Elf Day is the festive fundraiser created by the Alzheimer’s Society to help get you in the Christmas spirit whilst raising money to help beat dementia.

Spring is in the air

The residents and staff have been enjoying watching the local wildlife make use of our gardens. The birds have been been visiting and making use of the bird houses that we created last summer.

In February we had a fantastic afternoon of ten pin bowling. Some of our residents had never played before whereas some were pros.

Here are some pictures of our residents enjoying the game.

Out and about….

We continue to enjoy our regular trips out. These happen every two weeks and visit destinations far and wide. Recent outings have included trips to see the sea as well as visits into deepest darkest Dorset. I think all are agreed that the outings are a highlight of the activities calendar and certainly remain the talk of the home’s residents upon their return.

In house Cooking, Baking and of course Eating….

Across Badbury and Maumbury Care Home’s Nutrition and Hydration is very important to us. We have a dedicated Kitchen Team committed to providing nutritious and delicious meals, but we also try to include these important areas in to our day to day activities across the homes. Following the success of our Pizza decorating session, we all had great fun decorating and of course eating our Gingerbread people!

Our lovely new kitchens

Now that we have our main communal area back we were able to have a lovely Easter. We had our Easter Bonnet parade on Good Friday (everyone had chocolate and all the hats looked lovely.) Residents enjoyed a visit from the Easter Bunny on the Sunday and on Easter Monday we had a musical afternoon with ‘Musical Memories’ playing all the old favourites.

Waterloo Care Home welcomes a new manager Deborah Parrett

Waterloo has had a busy three months; we have celebrated the Dignity awareness day, Valentine’s day, mother’s day and Easter, along with several birthdays and a 63rd Wedding Anniversary. We would like to take this opportunity in welcoming our new manager Deborah Parrett. Debbie as she would prefer to be called joined Waterloo at the beginning of March.

Birthdays at Chalgrove

We celebrated Norah’s 102nd birthday on the 10th March. Her family and staff all sang happy birthday to her, she had lots of cakes and champagne. Norah had a lovely day and maybe even a little merry by the end of the day. Happy Birthday Norah! We also celebrated Denis’s birthday, his wife Anita brought him a lovely cake covered in fruit, Denis had a great day and the residents and staff enjoyed the cake. Thank you Anita

Creature teachers

At the beginning of February we had ‘Creature teachers’ in to visit. There were plenty of animals to hold and stroke, supported by Tilly. The residents in their rooms also, got to meet all the animals. The residents in the lounge were having lots of fun!

What a hoot….

In January we were also privileged to have a visit from the team at ‘Owl Therapy’. This is an amazing experience not just for the residents but for those of us fortunate enough to see their reactions. Mike and the team use these sessions for reminiscence and most residents are able to recall stories from their past where they have encountered these beautiful birds.

I think it’s fair to say that the majority of Badbury’s residents thoroughly enjoyed their time with the owls and we look forward to welcoming them back soon.

Mothering Sunday and Easter Weekend

These weekends were celebrated in the home with gusto, mothering Sunday was a very special day where lots of families came in and spent the day, a great atmosphere was had by all and it was lovley seeing all of our mums being spoilt.

Easter Sunday was spent hunting the Eggs that our staff had cleverly placed around the home, it was fantastic to see all our residents getting involved with some healthy competiton
