Respite Care

Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but time off for both of you is essential. Short care breaks (also known as respite) allow carers the time to recharge their batteries while offering their loved ones a temporary retreat with the reassurance of 24-hour care. However long their stay with us, our guests can enjoy their break secure in the knowledge that the appropriate care and support is in place. We are here to help with a wide range of situations, including recuperation from an illness or from a stay in hospital, covering times of particular need and to provide a break or holiday with care. Agincare care homes offer short care breaks throughout the year – perfect for when you’re planning your next holiday, or if you just need a well-earned rest. Our homes also provide respite care beds, crisis placements or ‘step down’ beds aimed to support people through hospital discharge.

About short stay care

Short stay or respite offers round the clock care in a safe, comfortable environment. It can be for as long as you need it. If you’re a carer, you might be thinking about short stay care if: • you’re planning a holiday • you need additional support – perhaps after feeling unwell

  • your loved one needs help to recover from an illness or operation
  • you’re considering moving your loved one to a care home permanently and they would like a trial visit
  • the person you’re caring for simply fancies a change of scenery and routine.
Short stays with Agincare

From the moment your loved one arrives for their short stay, they can expect a warm welcome. Their key carer will show you and your loved one around the home and give them as much help as they need to settle in. We’ll create a personal plan for them to help us know how they wish to be cared for. We’ll ask things like:

  • their personal routines and rituals
  • their likes and dislikes
  • any hobbies and interests
  • how they’d like to be helped by our staff on a day-to-day basis
  • what they like to eat and drink
  • their usual sleeping pattern

We want you or your loved one to be as comfortable as possible during a stay with us. Guests will be well looked after with a range of activities to enjoy, if they wish, and a variety of delicious well-balanced meals and snacks. We’ll provide bed linen and towels and will also offer them a free laundry service. Our staff are supportive, highly trained and experienced in caring for people who may be with us for only a short stay. Guests are made to feel very much part of the home from the moment they come through the door.
